Lydia Goldblatt

Still here -
I have been trying to find photographers that are dealing with the family album as a theme and i have come across Lydia Goldblatts series Still here . This series of 28 images are breaking the stereotypical family album posed photographs as she is capturing her her fathers death and the ripple effect that has on his surroundings .IE. his mother , the family home and herself . It is an unconventional spin on the traditional family album , especially in the way her images aren't invasive of the situation . he family hasn't been posed of asked to smile, it deals with the struggle of the everyday when coping with illness or the inevitable situation ,death . The series jumps from dark emotive shots to over exposed bright lights and details. This series of images is extremely relate able to and plays with the emotions of the viewer .commonly Family albums are full of mile stones in the development in the family life but darker themes such as this is never usually documented. I would like to play with the unconventional in my work especially now it has become a project based around my family. This pieces fights with the conventions on the family album  which takes me back to the interview i quoted right at the beginning of this project from Martin Parr .
