Annelies strba - Shades of time 1970-1997

Annelies strba has conducted a photographic project spanning years and capturing different generations of her as she calls it "neclear" family .

"The nuclear family or elementary family is a term used to define a family group consisting of a pair of adults and their children. This is in contrast to a single-parent family, to the larger extended family, and to a family with more than two parents. Nuclear families typically center on a married couple"( Wiki definition)

She has captured her stereotypical "normal" family in again an unconventional family album style . Her images arent all smiles and sunshine , she captures the real elements of family life .Through out the series you watch the family develope and grow from photographing her own children to eventually photographing her grand children . Starting in 1974, Swiss artist Annelies Strba has photographed members of her family for a lengthy project called Shades of Time. The photos in this projects are typically fuzzy, over-exposed or grainy and invoke a bygone era of intimacy and nuclear family. The photographs depict her children Sonja, Linda, and Samuel as well as her grandmother, mother, partner and eventually her grandchildren. Sometimes intruding, sometimes nostalgic, her photos capture utopian togetherness and lack of privacy in our simple everyday life.
In a subtle, effortless way, they are the chronicles of relationships, childhood and the coming of age between fantasy and reality. The title of the project itself invokes the process of seeing oneself in one’s own offspring, and fleeting memories of the irrevocable past.
